No Client Certificate Presented Error on AKO Login is a common error seen by the Army personnel. This is due to using a browser that doesn't have the required certification. You will come across this error when you're trying to have access to AKO (Army Knowledge Online) on a personal computer. Since the DoD is going to CAC-ONLY access effective December 2011 (no more passwords!), it is more important to get these things working properly. Many of the comments above were very helpful. The solution for me was a combination of the above comments. First, I installed the DoD Add-on from forge.mil, but Firefox was not recognizing my CAC. Now that you have a CAC reader, certificates, and a CAC Enabler, you should now be able to access any CAC-enabled website and log on using your CAC password and data. Remove your CAC card from the reader, wait a couple of seconds, then reinsert it. Open Keychain Access from the ApplicationsUtilities folder. In the column on the left of this window, does your CAC appear toward the top of the list under keychains? If so, attempt to access AKO. When I try to log into the AF Portal, I get 'No Client Certificate presented #555.240230d6.2328c0' When I try DFAS MyPay, I get 'myPay SmartCard error: 403.7. The page requires a client certificate.
InstallRoot Tool
The InstallRoot application is the simplest and most straightforward way to install all DOD certificates in your windows operating system, and supports Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Java.
- Select your corresponding computer architecture type from the links below: (NIPR Windows Installer, for SIPR certificates access DISA's site directly from a SIPR machine)
- Once downloaded, install the file and run InstallRoot.
- Install required certificates. A more detailed explanation with pictures is shown below.
- Restart your browsers for the changes to take effect (all windows!).
- In some cases you may have to clear the cache of the browser you are using.
Download the Install Root Software here:
Step 1:
Double-click the installer and click next.
Step 2:
Select the desired folder to install to or continue by clicking next.
Step 3:
Leave the defaults checked and click next.
Step 4:
After the installation finished click run InstallRoot.
Step 5*:
If Firefox, Java, or both programs are installed on your computer you will be asked if you would like to install the certificates in their respective certificate stores. Select yes if you are accessing DOD sites that use Java or if you access DOD sites with Firefox.
Step 6:
Close the Quick Start pop up.
Step 7:
Click Install Certificates in the top left corner. If you click the drop down next to the red ribbon you should see a green check mark next to the certificates.

- Open the Keychain Access application if it's not already running.
- Drag certificates in the folder to the login section of the Keychain Access.
- Click 'Add' to pop-up adding all certificates to login keychain (must click add to every certificate.).
- Once all certificates have been added double click DoD Root CA 3 and 4 certificates, select Trust and change 'When using this certificate' from 'User System Defaults' to 'Always Trust'.
- Confirm your changes by entering an administrative password.

There should be 55 DoD certs available in the Mac Keychain Access Utility.

I've downloaded the DoD certs from MilitaryCAC.com, double checked the trust settings and removed all duplicates of root certs, tried clearing the token cache, and have upgraded the drivers of both my CAC readers (an SCR-3500-A and an HID OMNIKEY 3121).

The page requires a client certificate. The page you are attempting to access requires your browser to have a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) client certificate that the Web server will recognize. The client certificate is used for identifying you as a valid user of the resource.'
When I try webmail, I get 'This application requires a valid client EMAIL certificate. Please check your client certificate settings and try again.'

And when I try DTS, I get 'Login Error. There has been a problem with your login. Error is: Could not communicate with security server (invalid HTTP status code -1, probably access denied because of cross domain scripting), dbsign code: 305'Is there any help you can provide?
